openjdk-6-jdk software package provides OpenJDK Development Kit (JDK), you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jdk
openjdk-6-jdk is installed in your system.
Make ensure the openjdk-6-jdk package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep openjdk-6-jdk *
You will get with openjdk-6-jdk package name, version, architecture and description in a table
